Story

While digging in the depths of an abandoned space station, a group of young space colonists come face to face with the most terrifying life form in space. stars Cailee Spaeny and Isabela Merced reveal why director Fede Alvarez used practical effects and animatronic xenomorphs to terrorize his cast. Physical sets, practical creatures and miniatures were used wherever possible to aid the VFX work. Zero gravity in real life causes liquids to form into spherical shapes rather than spread out into long, flat pieces like in a movie that turns ominous, like in Alien 3 (1992), which leads to the opening scene of the movie.

Death of Cinema – Real BBC @MauLer @HeelvsBabyface (2024). Positives first – Good action, great practical special effects and nice visuals. Director Fede Alvarez and his production team captured the dark atmosphere of Alien almost perfectly. The plot was exciting with a few scary moments.

This camera work, visual presentation and use of quality albeit limited CGI when needed was excellent

The use of practical effects and realistic miniatures was so refreshing to see in this age of excessive CGI. I was thrilled to see a fully realized Xenomorph in the flesh, and the outer space scenes were beautiful. Negatives – Average acting, nostalgia bait story, copy & pasting dialogue from the better Alien movies and including elements of lore from the inferior prequels that I wish didn’t exist in the official canon. Plus, the reveal of the villain was "oh, get out of here" A moment, I won’t say anything more.

I thought the nostalgia bait story was boring, eye-rolling, and almost fourth-wall breaking, so it ruined my immersion

Apart from the great lead actress Spaeny who played her role, the rest of the actors/characters were just fine. I’m getting bored of sequels/prequels that rely heavily on lazy "remember-berries" get a kick out of casual audiences while making Alien fans embarrassed almost angry. To be honest, that’s just lazy script writing and disrespect to the other Alien movies that did it first!. Unnecessarily.

Alien: Romulus, the above average Alien greatest hit movie, the 4th best movie in the franchise

Also, excessive use of copy & the pasted dialogue from the better Sigourney Weaver Alien movies was very cringe. Finally, trying to cram all the controversial and franchise-damaging Prometheus nonsense into the movie was frustrating, I hated all the Space Jockey origin and Xenomorph creation garbage. And don’t get me started on the villain, I don’t want to spoil anything, but it was ridiculously lazy to fit into the franchise’s established continuity with all the connections and plot beats necessary to fit it. They should have made a sequel years after Alien: Resurrection and set the start of a whole new Alien saga long after the Weavers’ adventures (and with better writers), but due to the disappointing characters, the vaguely “remember -berry”; story and bad screenplay, we were disappointed.
