Story
A detective and a nun investigate a series of heinous crimes that seem personal, while grappling with personal issues and uncovering a sinister spiderweb that raises more questions than answers. Ed Lachlan’s Mustang is the same color and license plate as the Italian company car 2WQI332. I’m almost done with the fourth episode and it feels like I’m watching a midlife crisis mashup of someone who is aware of their neurodivergent narrative (but doesn’t care what we think of this ADHD method), then added a borderline fetishistic schizophrenia, and then got lost talking about an original story. And yes, I am aware of how terribly structured this sentence is.
Who is it?
This is me mimicking the pacing and tone, as well as a general confusion about what I’m watching. Who do I care about? And please tell me why (for the love of storytelling, just tell me why I’m watching this, please). It’s everywhere, so I met Taylor’s boyfriend in a chaotic mix of casting.
I’m not even a fan
Which means no fangirling – just happy to have something I can relate to or even care about. It’s got a solid vibe – I can see the appeal. But let’s talk about Niecy Nash: I want to talk to my agent because she’s undersold and underused. Stop putting her in these ridiculous detective roles that don’t even seem to interest her.
She’s wise and beautiful and talented
She’s better than those roles and it doesn’t help if you try. Find her range-oriented roles and she’ll shine. (Sorry, but these roles give us time to reflect on her wasted talent.) All the actors are pretty good too – but there’s a very unnatural chaotic point of view that hurts to try to follow. I mean random chants, bonfires, sermons about life and weird metaphorical depictions of outdated religious things – but I guess that’s okay because you throw in a few lines of online activity and suddenly it’s not the same thing we’ve seen over and over again?
Is there a plot?
Ick. I gave it a six because the actors came and stayed in the scenes all the time. Maybe they were as confused as I was because I cared more about that than the plot.
