Hello Windows Insiders, We’re excited to announce the first build of the Windows 11 Insider Preview on the Dev Channel! You’ll be able to try out many, but not all, of the new features we introduced last week in this preview. Over the coming months, we’ll be bringing more features like Chat with Microsoft Teams and Android apps to the Microsoft Store as they’re ready for you—we’re just getting started on this journey together!
WSR is deprecated
Changes and improvements – – [General] Windows 11 is moving from Windows Speech Recognition (WSR) to Voice Access. When you open WSR, you’ll see a dialog asking you to try Voice Access, and they’ve added a caption in Settings > Ease of Access > Speak like them. Voice Access, our new assistive technology in Windows 11, uses on-device speech recognition, allowing you to control your computer and enter text without an internet connection.
They recommend that WSR users try Voice Access today
Will support more languages and custom commands in a future update (these features are now available to Windows Insiders who can try them on the Beta channel, as noted above). A dialog inviting you to try Voice Access when opening Windows Speech Recognition. – [Nearby Sharing] Introduces the ability to quickly give your device a more friendly name to recognize sharing to and from Nearby Share in Settings > System > Nearby Sharing.
For example, “speak faster”, “read the next line”, etc
Give your device a more descriptive name to identify sharing to and from Nearby Share. – [Narrator] Narrator users can now use Voice Access to open apps, dictate text, and interact with items on the screen using their voice. Narrator users can use Voice Access to give Narrator commands with their voice.
